One bus driver in Kelowna has been doing some extraordinary work, and people are taking notice.

This week marks Transit Driver Appreciation Day, and as a result, both BC Transit and Kelowna Regional Transit are celebrating an extraordinary bus driver who goes that extra mile to help transit users. Frank Teichmann is marking his 10th anniversary of work as a transit driver, and he’s well-known for doing some excellent work.

BC Transit says that Teichmann is currently their most requested member for the peer-to-peer defuser program. This programs involves drivers helping their peers who need counselling after a challenging situation on the job.

Not only is Teichmann influential in helping out the other drivers, but he’s also been called a holiday hero. For the past seven years, Teichmann has been the team lead on the Santa Sleigh Bus, which collects toys, food donations, and money for the Salvation Army at Christmastime. This program gives Christmas food and toy hampers for more than 1000 children in the Central Okanagan.

He’s active in the community as well, as a member of the Knights of Columbus, Kelowna Bonsai Club, Kasugai Association, and Boy Scouts of Canada.

“Local transit users appreciate the great customer service they receive each day from the friendly face behind the wheel,” says Kelowna–Lake Country MLA Norm Letnick. “Congratulations to Frank on ten years of dedicated service to our community.”

“Every day, residents of Kelowna rely on a transit system that is safe, comfortable and reliable,” says Kelowna-Mission MLA Steve Thomson. “Drivers like Frank are a big part of that success, and we thank him for his contributions.”

BC Transit is encouraging transit users to print of a card from the Transit Driver Appreciation Day website to thank their favourite bus drivers.
