First Transit-operated SouthWest Transit awarded Gold Award for Safety by APTA.

CINCINNATI—First Transit operated, SouthWest Transit in Eden Prairie, Minn., received the 2011 Gold Award for Safety for bus systems operating 1 million – 4 million passenger trips annually. This is the locations fourth time to receive this award from the American Public Transportation Associations (APTA). SouthWest Transit won this award in 2007, 2008 and 2009. In 2010, this location won the first ever Bus Security Award from the organization. According to First Transit General Manager Dave Simoneau, this award reflects the importance his customers and staff place on safety and their company practices.

“Through our proactive approach towards safety, our staff was able to accomplish a reduction in preventable accidents and staff injury to achieve this recognition,” Simoneau said. “The safety of the passengers we transport daily is our core value and it is an honor to be recognized for our safety processes.”

For more than 20 years, First Transit staff has provided fixed-route service to residents of Eden Prairie, Chanhassen and Chaska, Minn. The company oversees 54 employees and the operation of 64 buses, which transports more than 1.1 million passengers annually.
