2010 Santa Sleigh Bus to Benefit the Salvation Army’s Christmas Fund

First Canada and the Kelowna Regional Transit System partner
to collect donations for local families.

CINCINNATIFirst Canada Kelowna and the Kelowna Regional Transit System are rolling out the annual Santa Sleigh Bus to collect donations for the Salvation Army’s Christmas Fund. From Dec. 13 – 18, the bus will travel throughout the area collecting toys, food and monetary donations that will provide Christmas Day meals and toys to local families. The team is looking to break last year’s record of $27,000 in donations.

Each year, the Kelowna Regional Transit System Ambassadors, First Canada and ATU Local 1722 transform an everyday transit bus into an elaborate Santa Sleigh Bus for the campaign. Residents from the area look forward to seeing the incredible bus each year and generously donate items for the holiday season drive.

“We are so proud to be able to use our talents and resources to benefit those in need throughout the community, especially during the holiday season,” said Mike Docherty, contract manager, First Canada. “The team really enjoys putting the Santa Sleigh Bus together and is pleased that we can bring a smile to people in the community while we collect donations.”

Following its kick-off event and visit to Pearson Elementary School on Dec. 13, the Santa Sleigh Bus will make stops in Kelowna, Peachland, West Kelowna and Lake Country. These stops include:

Due to the generous support of area residents, the Santa Sleigh Bus has raised more than $98,100 for the Christmas Fund since the campaign’s inception seven years ago. Last year, the donations provided 700 families with holiday hampers of food and toys.

The Santa Sleigh Bus program is truly a community event.
