First Transit Employee Elected to Position at NEPTA
John Whittaker to serve as president of established transportation organization
CINCINNATI—John Whittaker, general manager, Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority, has been elected president of the NorthEast Passenger Transportation Association (NEPTA) beginning Jan. 1, 2010. NEPTA is an association of passenger transportation professionals in the public and private sectors who work to promote the transportation industry.
“It is an honor to have been elected as the organization’s president this year,” Whittaker said. “Through this position, I will work to promote the industry and the professionals who work diligently to keep our organization running.”

Whittaker is from Methuen, Mass. and graduated from Westfield State College where he obtained a B.S. in criminal justice. He has been part of the First Transit family for 25 years. Prior to his role as general manager, he was a correctional officer for the Essex County (MA) Sheriff’s Department.
