First Transit Success Stories

SUCCESS STORY: T LINK, UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE

T LINK, UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE

Summary of the Client

The University of Tennessee in Knoxville is a public research university in Eastern Tennessee.

The Challenge

The University wanted to increase usage of on-campus shared transportation services and provide a safe night-time service for students.

The Solution

The University engaged First Transit, its provider for its on-campus fixed route service, to expand its current transportation network.  We worked with our technology partner TransLoc to implement an on-demand campus transportation service, the T Link.

Between 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., students can request a ride via the University’s mobile app, powered by TransLoc. T Link serves two of the University’s campuses and surrounding neighborhoods, connecting students to their residence halls and key destinations on campus. First Transit operates four vehicles for this service.

Measurable Results

In a 2018 Student Satisfaction Survey, more than 80% of the UTK students surveyed indicated that they were satisfied with the TransLoc app and services. The addition of the passenger app was the highest rated recent enhancement to the UTK transit system by students.
