CINCINNATI, August 13, 2009—The City of Monroe Transit System, managed by First Transit - the leading provider of passenger transportation contract and management services in the United States, was recently awarded the 2009 Environmental Leadership Program Municipality Achievement Award in pollution prevention by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality.
Brad Thomas, president of First Transit and First Services, is focused on continuing First Transit's innovative work in the environmental arena. "I am extremely proud of the work Monroe Transit has put into their operations and happy to be recognized for our contributions," Thomas said. "By using innovative technology to improve the environmental impact, we can ultimately contribute to keeping our planet clean while continuing to provide efficient and reliable service."
By introducing the use of biodiesel fuel, purchasing buses with particulate filters and low emission vehicle ratings, and promoting the benefits of transit ridership, Monroe Transit has drastically improved air quality in their area and been an example of what it takes to be environmentally conscious.
