First Transit Employee Recognized for 35 Years of Service

CINCINNATI—First Transit’s Director of Business Development Jim Rude was recognized for 35 years of employment with the company. Rude’s career began as a part-time school bus operator for Columbia Bus Service in Portland, Ore. From that time on, he has had a strong interest in transportation and has worked in various fields within the industry. While honored to receive this recognition, Rude contributes his success to the many good people he has had the chance to work with over the years and the opportunities to grow with the company.

“My time with First Transit has given me the opportunity to constantly meet and interact with new people and has provided me with work that is both challenging and rewarding,” Rude said. “All of these great people and the experiences I have had helped me keep a positive attitude and stay young at heart. I’m very grateful to be working in such a dynamic and fulfilling industry, and for such an appreciative company.”

Rude began working in the transit industry in 1977 and joined First Transit in 2007 through the acquisition of his former company. His current duties include developing thorough and successful proposal responses to Request for Proposals for both existing and new contracts, developing strategies for contract wins including approach, valued added, staffing issues, equipment and client needs, as well as providing support for First Transit operations with growth opportunities.

Originally, from Portland, Ore., Rude attended the University of Oregon and Portland State University. He currently resides in Overland Park, Kan., is the proud parent of two adult children and has been married to his wife Jan for more than 25 years.
