CINCINNATI—The Lorain County Board of Commissioners is pleased to award the contract to operate the Lorain County Transit system to First Transit, Inc. This award was approved in December 2008 and is effective starting January 2009. First Transit, Inc., a leading private provider of transit management and contracting services, is part of Cincinnati-based FirstGroup America, North America’s largest transportation company.
This 3-year agreement includes operation, maintenance and management of a fleet of 37 transit buses for fixed route and paratransit services.
“We are committed to our core values of safety and customer service and will bring our extensive employee training and preventative maintenance programs to the Lorain County Transit operation,” said Linda Bell, President of First Transit and First Services. “We look forward to serving the people of Lorain County and to providing them with efficient, dependable transportation.”
“We are delighted to have First Transit as our contractor in Lorain County. Their commitment to safety was a major factor in our selecting First Transit to operate our County owned bus fleet. In one of the shortest transitions ever, First Transit has taken over the fleet operations from the previous Transit operator in a seamless transfer. To the citizens of Lorain County and our transit riders the operational shift has been wonderful. We look forward to a long and productive time,” according to County Commissioner Betty Blair, 2008 Board President.
