First Transit Renews Contract at George Bush Intercontinental Airport

CINCINNATI, OH – First Transit was successful in renewing their contract with the Houston Intercontinental Airport to operate the shuttle for the consolidated rental car facility. This contract was renewed starting April 1, 2007 and is good until 2012.  First Transit has partnered with IAH since 2002, when they restructured their rental car facilities to one building and reduced the number of shuttles from 126 agency buses to 26 First Transit buses.

Ron McElhose remains the General Manager of the Houston RAC.  He manages 85 dedicated transit professionals.  The IAH shuttle has a ridership of 2.3 million passengers each year.  This contract generates about $5.4 million in annual revenue for First Transit.  This contract is overseen by Senior Vice President Beverly Edwards and Region Vice President John Mathews.

On October 1, 2007, FirstGroup plc, First Transit’s parent company, announced the close of the acquisition of Laidlaw International, Inc.  Subsequently, Laidlaw Transit Services became a part of First Transit.  First Transit, Inc. has more than 51 years of experience and is a leading provider of passenger transportation contract and management services in the United States, now providing operation, management and consulting for 235 locations in 45 states, Canada and Puerto Rico for transit authorities, state departments of transportation, federal agencies, municipal organizations, and private companies.
