City of Phoenix Awards Fixed Route Contract to First Transit

CINCINNATI, OH – First Transit was awarded a three year contract with two option years to operate the City of Phoenix fixed route service, Valley Metro.  This service started on October 1, 2007.  Valley Metro operates 151 vehicles throughout the greater Phoenix area.  This contract has a first year value of about $22 million.

Marc Perla will take the role of General Manager for Valley Metro.  He has over 14 years of experience in transportation management, operations and logistics, spending the last 4 years as a General Manager for First Transit in Denver, Colorado.  He will be joined by John Britt, Dave Larsen, and Jeff Moore to complete the First Transit team in Phoenix.  This contract will be overseen by Nick Promponas, Senior Vice President of the West Region.

This contract in Phoenix is the first in the state of Arizona for First Transit.  Senior Vice President Nick Promponas, “is excited to expand into his home state.  First Transit has a great management team set for Valley Metro and is very excited to start operating in Arizona.”
